Betrayal

Mouth watering, sumptuous and
A tease

Flared nostrils and
Bated breath

Longing infatuation
Undressed, uncontrolled inhibitions

Whispering every well-thought-out
Line

Lushly green
but angrily barren

Bright, bold and beckoning
Winking, seducing and adulterous

Fruitless
Unkept promises

Gnawing,
away
a red heart

Beating halts
A frightened

Corpse
lies

Still...

too soon

Can you identify with the feeling of "seduction" by food advertisers and their fake "foods"? Do you believe the USDA and FDA have abandoned their duties to inform and advise the American public? I'd like to know your thoughts, so please leave me a comment. Photo credit: Play4smee

  1. Poems can be powerful to get a point across and it is nice to see variety of post types. The pic you use actually makes me think of life being precious. This is what I got out of your poem as well, showing the importance of taking care of our bodies. That includes eating healthy.

  2. This is very creative, I'm thinking that not too many people take the time for poetry in a blog (unless the blog is about poetry). Obviously you feel very strongly about food being part of a healthy lifestyle, but is not what you are seeing through the actions of people you know. Food is a great love of mine too, and I'm just now beginning to understand the importance of balancing that and making sure that you take the time to eat right for yourself. Very bold, and very personal poem.

  4. @ Brittany, thank you for the encouragement. As I mentioned in "Let's Talk About Food," I'm considered by some as a "bit far out" when it comes to my concerns about food. Yet, food motivated me to synthesize a few of the sad, but sobering realities associated with the Standard American Diet (S.A.D.) into this poem. For me, food can be an artistic expression either on the plate or in poetry. Please offer more of your thoughts regularly.

  6. @MMK, You're right, most of us don't have a great deal of understanding or commitment when it comes to food and health, but perhaps this can be attributed to food advertisers. Even the notion of "health" and "healthy" have become fabrications of advertisers and public relations consultants. Those terms seemingly have very little grounding in facts.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts, come visit me again soon.
